The People Behind the Process
Biophelion was built by scientists who know how to run a business and operators who understand the science. That combination is rare — and it's exactly what it takes to move a biotech from the lab bench to commercial reality.
Meet our team
Dr. Lars Regestein
CEO & Co-Founder
Lars is a bioprocess engineer with a strong academic background and international experience. Before founding Biophelion, he led the process development of a pilot plant where solving bioprocess problems and scaling up production was his day-to-day business. As CEO, he now brings that hands-on expertise to bear on Biophelion's strategic direction, investor relations, and technology roadmap.
Prof. Till Tiso
CTO & Co-Founder
Till is a central figure in applied microbiology and biotechnology in Germany. His research is focused on the sustainable production of biotechnologically relevant substances and is characterised by interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to translating science into real-world application. As CTO, he drives the strain engineering, process design, and scale-up strategy that make Biophelion's platform uniquely robust — and his work on modified pullulan and novel bioreactor concepts points to where the innovation pipeline is headed.
Felix Kasper
Head of Commercialization
Felix is a bioprocess engineer with over a decade of experience scaling upstream bioprocessing technologies from early development to global commercial deployment. He has built and led international teams across Europe, the US, and Asia-Pacific — including time based in Tokyo — and has a proven track record of turning complex technical platforms into market-ready products. At Biophelion, he leads the go-to-market effort: building the sales pipeline, driving first revenue, and representing the company at industry events across Europe.
Frederick Haala
Product Manager
Frederick studied biochemical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund before working at RWTH Aachen University on bioprocess development and optimisation for the production and purification of eukaryotic metabolites. At Biophelion, he bridges the gap between lab and market — managing product development priorities, customer qualification processes, and the technical documentation that B2B buyers need to make purchasing decisions.
Dr. Ronja Breitkopf
Lab Head & Scientist
Ronja holds a PhD in molecular biology and brings extensive experience in setting up and managing laboratory infrastructure. She manages all laboratories and scientific activities at Biophelion's location in Jena, ensuring that fermentation processes are reproducible, batch records are clean, and product quality consistently meets food-grade and cosmetics standards.
Dr. Liesa Heinrich
Business Development Manager
Liesa holds a PhD in biochemistry and brings practical experience from both academic research and the startup world, where she worked in product development and product management. That background gave her a valuable understanding of the technological requirements and the dynamics of fast-moving markets and teams — an ideal foundation for developing and managing Biophelion's commercial relationships and expanding its customer base across Europe and beyond.
Loic K. Pienkep
Process Engineer
Loic is a Process Engineer with a Master's degree in Chemical Biology from Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He has experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology research, and process engineering, with a strong focus on industrial biotechnology and bioprocess optimisation. At Biophelion, he is the critical link between scientific proof-of-concept and customer-ready product, driving the scale-up of fermentation and downstream processing.
Julius Krödel
Working Student
Julius is currently doing his Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and works at Biophelion in the field of new bioreactors.
Marie Müller
Working Student
Marie is currently doing her Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and works at Biophelion in the field of microbial cultivation.
Sanne Melles
Strategy (Advisor)
Sanne has a strong track record of growing businesses in the international food ingredients and life sciences industry, driving business development, innovation, and change. As a strategic advisor, he shapes the frameworks that guide Biophelion's decisions around markets, partnerships, and long-term growth scenarios.
Dr. Roland Breves
Application & Implementation (Advisor)
Roland holds a PhD in microbiology and spent more than 27 years at Henkel AG & Co. KGaA in Düsseldorf, ultimately as Head of Corporate Microbiology. His work spanned detergent enzyme development, antimicrobial systems, prebiotic cosmetics, and biofilm science — resulting in over 90 publications and patents. Today he works as an independent biotech consultant and serves as Chairman of the Board at CLIB e.V. At Biophelion, he helps translate the fermentation platform into application-ready ingredients across home care, personal care, and industrial markets.
